Make learning and practicing rhythm much more engaging with these great rhythm resources for music lessons. From board games to body percussion, students will build their foundational skills while having fun!

Rhythm Board Games

Rhythm Board Games

Make sure students learn about note values and counting while having fun! Rhythm on a Roll is a firm favourite in my studio, plus Beat It and Jawsome Note Values are also very popular (and available in the free Music Teacher Resource Library).

Rhythm Apps

There are two different types of rhythm apps I use with students: ones that use musical notation (like Rhythm Swing), and ones that focus on keeping the beat (like the Most Amazing Sheep Game). Check out the full list of rhythm apps for iPad.

Rhythm Backing Tracks

Backing Tracks

Backing tracks are great for helping students to keep in time. There are a few method books that include backing tracks:

Plus there’s lots available on YouTube which can be used for for practicing scales and improvising.

Rhythm Cup Explorations

Rhythm Cup Explorations

The Rhythm Cup Explorations resource from Compose Create is perfect for introducing new rhythm sequences and practicing rhythm in a fun way. There are lots of different levels, so it can be used with beginner, intermediate and more advanced students.

Metronome Rhythm Resources

Old School Metronome

Convincing students of the merits of metronomes is an ongoing challenge in my studio, but using a physical metronome instead of an app has helped! Lots of students are fascinated with how it works, and I always let them have a turn setting different tempos.
