Students improve their music theory knowledge and deductive reasoning in this mystery-themed escape room. As they work through the worksheets they receive clues which narrow down the suspects, weapons, and locations. Using the logic grid puzzle students can solve the mystery and close the case!

How does the escape room work?

This resource was created for use in a group workshop or classroom. Students are able to work individually or in small groups as they complete the music theory worksheets, receive a clue for every finished worksheet, and use the clues to fill out the logic puzzle and solve the mystery.

Alternatively, this escape room can be used as an individual multi-week challenge. Students receive a music theory worksheet every week, complete it before their next lesson, and receive a clue for every worksheet they hand in.

What level are these worksheets?

They’re aimed at piano students who have had at least one year or more of lessons, though less experienced students can easily be paired with more experienced students in a group situation

The topics of the worksheets include:

• Rhythm: writing counting under the notes (includes rests and quavers/eighth notes)
• Rhythm: add the note values (includes quavers/eighth notes)
• Piano Keys & Intervals: identify the names of the piano keys and the intervals
• Piano Keys & Note Reading: identify the notes and show on the piano keys
• Note Reading: identify the notes (from bass A to treble high F)

The two bonus worksheets are about music symbols.
